Former Filipino Senator Ernesto Herrera has expressed that the number of Filipino Nurses that took the NCLEX-RN exam has plunged. Pinoy Nurses seeking employment in the US needs to pass the NCLEX-RN exam which is the equivalent for the NLE in the Philippines.
Last July 2007, Nclex-RN exam can now be taken in Manila and this has been good news for Pinoys who are seeking employment in the United States.
But, according to TUCP Secretary General, from July to September 2009 only 3,582 Filipinos took the NCLEX-RN Exam. The previous record was 5,242.
There has been speculations that the US recession has also impacted Filipino Nurses and has discouraged them from applying to the US.
The US recession has surely resulted into millions of unemployment. But Filipino Nurses should not be discouraged because there has always been a cycle for the availability of Visas in the United States.
With this sad news, there could still be something good that we could
learn from it. Being a nurse trains us to be resilient.
Still, Herrera said that 4 out of 10 Foreign Nurses who enters the US are still Pinoys.
